I can use them just fine on most of my pistols but they make an absolute mess of the rifling in my HKs. Webb3 juli 2024 · You can remove the bell during seating. As for plated vs FMJ, FMJ will be more forgiving, but IMO it's only an issue if you're trying to introduce way too much crimp, and you shouldn't need any crimp at all for 9/40/45. In other words, I don't see a reason you couldn't start out loading with plated bullets.

It will damage a blood vessel the smaller projectile barely misses. The larger permanent cavity may lead to faster blood loss. (the plated lead is softer than the guilding metal FMJ) Since the bullets are plated the light taper crimp prevents cracking the plating which could cause leading of the barrel. All it means is the bullet is covered with "something" completely, but no indicia as to how thick it is. FMJ almost universally means there is a thick copper/brass/metal alloy jacket on the bullet and often an open base.
